The Maryland Online Consumer Protection and Child Safety Act applies to processing the information on residents or doing business in Maryland or establishing a Workgroup on Online Consumer Personal Information Privacy.
Complying with the MOCPA prevents companies from hiding important facts or falsely representing the facts related to consumer goods, services, property, or credit.

How it relates to cybersecurity
Businesses that collect personal information from consumers are required to protect that information. If a breach occurs that results in personal information being released or lost, the business is required to notify affected consumers and send notice of the breach to the Consumer Protection Division’s Identity Theft Unit.
